Cover Reveal for Maybe This Time (A Whiskey Valley Romance, Book 4)! Brooke and Wyatt's story is coming this year! Their story has been building since Brooke returned to Whiskey Valley in Maybe Next Time (Lucy & Jake's story, Book 2). By the end of Maybe Someday (Emma & Jackson's story, Book 3), it was obvious Brooke and Wyatt shared a tangled past.
Like small-town romance? Visit the Whiskey Valley Romances page to read more about this fun series. Did you know that authors sometimes rewrite or revise a first book? I've noticed some Indie authors and traditionally published authors have revised or redone a second edition of their first book. When I look back at my first, A Taste of Whiskey Valley, I sometimes see things I wish I had written differently, but I don't think I'll ever do a rewrite. It was my first, probably not my best, but it laid the foundation for the other books that followed. I think my writing evolves with each new book, so staying focused on future books and not revisiting the past is the path I'm taking.
Did you know? Two of my books are available to read for free with Amazon's Kindle Unlimited subscription. If you like romance, mystery, and fun, quirky characters, download a copy today!
Wrapped Up in You and Fatal Flow are available for purchase and free download (with Kindle Unlimited) on Amazon. Have you ever found money stashed in a purse you haven’t used in a while or found an item you stashed away for safe keeping and forgot about? Those little discoveries are like finding buried treasure or winning a mini lottery. Something similar happened to me in 2020.
After publishing Maybe Someday, the third book in the Whiskey Valley Romance series, I wasn’t sure what to write next. I started on book four in the series, as well as the second book I hope to publish in 2021, but couldn’t stay focused on either book. I needed inspiration, so I went searching for it in my basement. I shuffled cardboard boxes and plastic totes until I found the clear tote with the white lid that stored notebooks filled with story ideas, manuscripts (unfinished and finished), reject letters from traditional publishers, and several stories from high school and college I should probably throw in the recycle bin. Basically, my “writing tub” contained a lifetime of writing: good stuff, bad stuff, and what-was-I-thinking stuff. I dug around until I found the purple folder I’d been searching for that held a completed manuscript written 20 years ago. I thumbed through it, liking what I read. The downside to finding this “buried gem” was that I didn’t have an electronic file and would have to retype it into a Word file; the upside was that it only needed minor revisions. So I typed and revised, changing the title and several character names as well as making the story more modern. In the original manuscript, only one character had a cell phone (a flip phone) and one character actually used a phone booth. My, how times have changed. So after revising, proofing, and having a sexy little cover made, the new and improved Wrapped Up in You was finished. I’m happy I rediscovered this story and could share a second book with you all in 2020. I hope you enjoyed the romance, suspense and antics of the merry matchmakers in my “buried gem.” Just in time for Christmas! Fatal Flow is on SALE for 99 CENTS! Available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Let’s talk writing process. My writing process has varied for each book I’ve written so far. In the past, ideas, characters, or scenes have ignited my imagination and fueled my writing process. The process for my first book began with an idea—a famous TV chef visiting a small town and falling for…Well, you know the story. I created, or built, the story around that one idea.
While writing Maybe Someday, the first scene I wrote for the book was a rough rendering of the “grand romantic gesture” chapter. That chapter appears toward the end of the story despite being the first scene written. Inspiration struck after watching Pride and Prejudice (yes, it’s a favorite) one night, and I decided one of my male characters was destined to wear a pair of very vintage pants… Grab your copy of Maybe Someday to learn more about the “grand romantic gesture” chapter and which of my characters wore those vintage pants! |
